I am in a big dilemma in having to choose between moving to USA or Canada. I got an offer of Phd and my hubby a post doc (1 year) in Canada and we have a PR status. Also, my hubby got a job in DC (which I think would be good in a long run) and me trying hard to find a job. I have been exploring the opportunities and I find these H4 horror stories of spouses... very scary. As the deadline is approaching to choose, I am more and more lost. Hence, I am opting this forum for suggestions which would be highly appreciated.
Thank you all.

hello Mati,

Congratulations to you and your hubby!!!

It is entirely your decision to decide where you can to migrate, we-the sajha-people can only give different suggestions. In my opinion, looking at the current case---you being offered a PhD position and your hubby a Post Doc position, it would be great to go for Canada. If both your husband and you were offered good positions here in the US, then the case would have been different and US could have been the better choice over Canada. From what I understand, you will be an H4 here while your husband would be H1 in the US; I think you should go and utilize your potential and grab the offer in Canada because you don't know if that offer will come again or not.

Once you have your degree you can go and apply in the US or anywhere in the world. I simply think that if you have a degree then you can sale yourself anywhere. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

What H4 horror stories?

As for your dillemma, I would go to Canada. You said your hubby can get a postdoc position and you can enroll yourself in a PhD program. So go for that. Later, once you attain PhD, you can once again make a choice.

With PhD, assuming it is in hard science, you can probably apply for US Green Card under EB1 or EB2 category, which is much faster than in EB3 category.

Of course, if your hubby's job is highly lucrative and prestigious, then you have to evaluate that option as well.
