If you are H1 B and if you are not paid then you are illegal to stay in US.

Then you cant work for them. You have to meet the requirement. Unless they are NGO's, who can sponsor you at a much lesser salary. And why would you work for someone who dosent even wants to kay you around 40 K a year?

dont take any chances to go school without pay stub. To change the status back to f1, u have to go thorough INS, and right now INS guys are very strict, they might deny your status change request in absence of pay stub.

Well, the company that did your H1 needs to give you a paystub. Tell them that either get you a job or get you pay stubs so that you can go back to school. I hope they will listen.

 last 3-4 pay stubs would be safer
